Sound Development City 2013: We asked the people of Lisboa what their city sounds like.
Text #1: Walking trough Jardins do Parque de Pena to the coast is an aural symphony.
Text #2: It sounds like water flowing reflecting the sunlight.
Text #3: Lisboa à beira mar plantada, com vielas sinuosas, cheiros, cores, vozes. O mundo inteiro nestas ruas. Ponto de chegada e de partida. Reis, festas, desgraças, trevas, alegria e folia, dor e morte, intolerância e compaixão. Tudo convive nesta cidade, que muitos pés já pisaram, e que muitos já sonharam.
Text #4: People talking, cars going by, someone shouts, you look around, the new university students are chanting on the streets. The underground seems to be international, chinese, german, spanish is heard. And then at the end of the day my house is silent but if I open a window I hear the squeak of the old clothes drying rack outside or the humming of a air conditioned. I close the window and I can sleep.
Text #5: Lisboa sound fresh breeze!
Text #6: The sound of the tram on the metallic rails. The sound of the knife sharpener’s harmonica. The sound of the river hitting the rocks.
Text #7: Lisbon sounds, (in Baixa, Rua da Madalena), very loud. The layers of the sound of passing trams, cars, people, ambulances, alarmes, etc creates a complex and very rich sound scape.
Text #8: Will do drive cais das colunas mae de agua tejo.
Text #9: Lisboa is voiced through lovely bla bla bla of small talks, it speaks.
